HP Envy 14 Spectre Review

While everyone has been focusing on Apple and their newly updated Macbook Pro models HP has released the Envy Spectre line of consumer ultrabooks to compete with Apple's ultraportable line; the Macbook Air. The 14-inch Envy Spectre is a great looking laptop with a slick design and while being a bit heavier than other ultrabook-class machines provides great performance in a slick, glass-covered enclosure.

The Envy Spectre is the perfect laptop for someone who wants sleek styling, high-performance, long battery life and requires or prefers Microsoft Windows 7 over Apple's OS X.

Key features:
  • Intel Core i5 processor @ 1.6GHz
  • Intel HD 3000 graphics - same as the Macbook Pro/Air
  • 128GB solid state hard drive for super fast booting and performance
  • Brilliant, high-contrast 14-inch LCD screen
  • Nearly 10 hour battery life for extended work or entertainment on the go

While it falls short of the promised specs by a bit it's still a great value. Most users have found that the screen isn't as bright as they would like and that the battery lasts closer to 5 hours under regular use (not 9.5 hours as HP advertises). The Envy Spectre also has a new power adapter connector that holds up better than the flimsy ones shipped on previous HP laptop designs.

Currently the best price online for the HP Envy Spectre 14-Inch Ultrabook is on Amazon.com.

Overall if you want a laptop that rivals the Macbook pro for a few hundred dollars less that runs Windows 7 and has a unique Gorilla glass covered body that will make people drool over your laptop this is the one you want.
